After install: the real timeline
- Day of install. Most garages are finished in 1 day. Large or repair-heavy floors can take 2.
- After 24 hours. Walk on it in socks or clean shoes. Light items can go back.
- After 48 hours. Park on flake, solid and quartz floors. Move heavy shelving and toolboxes back.
- After 72 hours. Park on metallic floors. Metallic epoxy cures slower than the other systems.
- First month. Avoid dragging sharp, heavy steel across it. After that, use it like a floor.
What decides how long it lasts
- How the concrete was prepared. A floor on ground concrete stays bonded. A floor on washed concrete is on borrowed time.
- Moisture in the slab. Tested and treated before coating, it is not a problem. Ignored, it lifts the floor from below.
- Thickness. Thin coatings wear through where tires turn. Built-up floors do not.
- The topcoat. It takes the sun, the hot tires and the scratches so the color layer does not have to.

How to look after it
- Sweep or dust-mop when it looks dusty. Grit is what dulls any floor.
- Mop with water and a little mild cleaner. No citrus or vinegar cleaners, and no soap that leaves a film.
- Wipe up oil, brake fluid and battery acid when you see them. They will not soak in, but do not leave them for weeks.
- Put a mat under a motorcycle kickstand or a jack. Point loads can dent any coating.
Common questions
How long before I can park on a new epoxy floor?
48 hours for our flake, solid and quartz floors. 72 hours for metallic floors, which cure slower.
How long before I can walk on it?
24 hours.
Is an epoxy floor durable enough for a workshop?
Yes. Dropped tools can chip any hard floor, but a built-up coating with a tough topcoat handles rolling toolboxes, jacks on a pad, and daily vehicle traffic.
Do coated floors need to be redone?
A well-built floor can be refreshed years later with a new clear topcoat instead of being replaced, as long as it is still bonded to the concrete.
