On bare concrete, with grinding and a clear protective topcoat included. The range depends on how many colors and how much hand work the design needs.
How a metallic floor is made
- The concrete is ground open and any cracks are filled. A metallic floor is glossy, so the slab under it has to be flat and clean.
- A solid base color goes down first. It sets the mood of the floor: black for drama, white or grey for a marble look.
- The metallic layer is poured and moved by hand while it is still liquid. This is where the veins and clouds come from, and why the material has to be slow-curing epoxy.
- A clear topcoat seals it and gives it scratch resistance.

Where metallic works, and where it does not
| Think twice | Great fit | |
|---|---|---|
| Space | A garage used as a working shop | Basements, living areas, showrooms, salons |
| Look you want | Uniform, identical to a sample | One of a kind; variation is the point |
| Traffic | Dragged steel, dropped tools | Foot traffic, furniture, a parked car |
| Light | Outdoors in full sun | Indoors, where the gloss reads like stone |
In a garage
Metallic floors go in garages too, especially ones used to show cars rather than to work on them. Two things to know: the smooth gloss shows dust and tire marks more than a flake floor does, and metallic cures slower, so plan on 72 hours before parking.

Common questions
How much does a metallic epoxy floor cost in Atlanta?
$6.40 to $9.60 per square foot installed on bare concrete. A 660 square foot space runs about $4,220 to $6,340. Preparation for painted, coated or cracked floors adds $0.40 to $1.00 per square foot.
Are metallic epoxy floors slippery?
They are smooth and glossy, so they can be slippery when wet. A grip additive can be put in the topcoat for entries and kitchens.
How long does a metallic floor last?
The floor itself is built to last many years indoors. The clear topcoat takes the wear, and it can be renewed down the road without redoing the design underneath.
Can metallic epoxy go over tile or wood?
Over sound tile, sometimes, after the surface is prepared and leveled. Not over wood or any floor that flexes. Concrete is the right base.
